Driving Distance: 58.3 miles Time: 1 hour, 33 minutes

Leaving Mountain View East on AR 14, head for Batesville.  At the top of Iron Mountain you will enjoy one of the most scenic views in all the Ozarks and your compass may go wild.  Turn Left on AR 58 to Guion.  The ride is steep, curved, and has wonderful views.  Toward the end, the curves straighten out and the hills level to the White River.  Across the river you can see the "Sand Mine".  The silica sand is so pure in this mine it is used in windshields.  From Guion, pronounced "Guy un", to Sage have your camera ready.  Of all our rides, this is one of the most photographed parts.  Stop and look.  At Sage turn LEFT, North on AR 69 North this will take you to Melbourne.  Just past the Court House you will come to a tee in the road.  Go straight onto AR 9 South.  From here to Sylamore the road is winding, curvy, and full of wildlife.  Be careful.  With loud pipes, you can hear yourself coming and see your own taillights.  Closer to Sylamore you will see one of the best panoramic views of the White River valley.  As the road straightens into the White River valley you may smell the river or wildflowers along the road.  Some of the best trout fishing in the World is in Stone County.  You can rent a boat with or without a guide in the Sylamore Allison area.  At the intersection of AR 5,9,14 leave your foot down and take time to enjoy the view, relax you neck, and sit up straight.  From this intersection any direction is a good ride.  But we're going Left to Mountain View, five miles up the hill South on AR 5,9,14.  Hold on to the handlebars as you power up the hill.  Finally a straight road.

ATTENTION:  There are pull offs on all roads in the Ozarks, however most are gravel.  Heavy rains also "wash" gravel onto highways.  Be careful on the curves.  Lots of folks let their dogs run free here in the hills and occasionally a cow or a horse.  Watch for the unexpected, especially our native White Tail deer.  They can't run on blacktop but they sure can jump.  Depending on the time of year you ride; you may see RV's, big trucks, road construction, hunters in orange, or someone sitting in the middle of the road taking a picture.  Share the road and don't be surprised if everyone you meet waves or "takes the middle out of your lane".  We joke about paying taxes on both sides of the road.  Every town has a good place to eat or as we call it "coffee".  Be sure to check for the pie in season and "today's special".  Enjoy your place in the Mountains.
